Omar Infante Traded!

While cleaning the kitchen tonight I quickly grabbed the remote and flipped the channel from TLC since my wife wasn't around over to ESPN only to see a report that super utility man Omar Infante has been traded!

The Braves agreed to send Omar along w/ pitcher Mike Dunn to the Florida Marlins in exchange for second baseman Dan Uggla.  I'm not sure what to think of the deal.  I missed some of the news, but I thought I heard that Uggla will be a free agent after the 2011 season so there are no guarantees the Braves will have him more than one season.

I'm guessing the Braves decided to pull the trigger on the deal since Omar's stock went up after his fantastic 2010 season.  If Chipper doesn't rebound from his injury Martin Prado will take over third base most likely leaving second base open for Uggla full time.  I was already looking forward to next season and this move only makes me more impatient to see what the Braves can accomplish.  I'm sure most Braves fan will agree that Omar will be missed.

  1. I, too, am not sure what to think of the trade. On the one hand, we got what we needed: a right handed power hitter. However, Uggla isn't exactly a great fielder- and we needn't be reminded about the fielding woes this past season...I read where they're saying that he will be at second, with Martin in LF (unless Chipper can't go, then Martin is at third). The trade also leaves us with a great need for an Infante-type player, which is tough to come by. I also really hoped to see Dunn continue to improve out of the 'pen; a lefty who throws gas just doesn't come along very often. However, we was prone to control problems, and that may never get fixed. So- I guess our best hope is that Chipper goes one more year (relatively healthy-120+ games), then once he retires they use that money on Uggla. I'm excited already for the 2011 season, and the 2011 product!!
