Rey Ordonez Collection

REY ORDONEZ COLLETION

(updated 7/20/10)

Rey was the first player that I tried to collect everything that I could find. Well thanks to the smattering of parallels I don't think I'll ever complete that task...but I do hope to fill in a few holes. Here is list that I'm still searching for. If you have anything from this list please let me know. I'll buy or trade.

Trade completed!

I'm still new at this whole blog trading thing, but BA Benny helped me complete my 2nd trade since I started my blog. I sent him some Mets & Yankees cards I had recently pulled and he in return he sent me some nice Braves cards and even a few Red Sox cards that I wasn't expecting!

As instructed by the wife I had clear the dining room table of the piles and piles of cards and I forgot to scan in these cards I received to post here.

If anyone has a player or team you collect please let me know and I'll gladly set them aside and send you whatever I come across. Even if you don't have any players/team I collect you can still have 'em...I'm that nice!

"New" baseball cards found @ Dollar Tree

The wife sent me in today @ the local Dollar Tree to pick up some birthday wrapping paper and tape and what did I find on a little 4 sided island as I walk in the door? Several different gravity feeders w/ baseball, football, basketball and non-sports trading card packs! I can remember years and years ago dollar stores carrying early 90's cards randomly thrown in small bags. This was a nice surprise.

I didn't have time to really take in everything they had, but I did grab a few packs of 2008 Upper Deck Documentary and 2008 Upper Deck X. I never bought any of the Documentary stuff so I wanted to see what it was like first hand. Wow, I had no idea this set was so freakin' large! I did pick up a pack or two of the 2008 X Baseball and liked what I saw. I didn't have any "hits" per se (best card was a die-cut parallel of Pujols from 2008 X) so these cards will be going on my trade list if anyone is interested. Out of the 5 packs I was surprised that I didn't pull one single Braves. Oh well, now that I know they are selling packs I'll be dropping by more often.

The agony of waiting!

One more week. I've got several things to look forward too one week from today. First off it's Easter so I'm looking forward to church (like every Sunday), then we get to celebrate all of the Easter festivites for the first time with my 6 mo. old daughter and lastly - the beginning of the 2010 Major League Baseball season w/ the Atlanta Braves taking on the Chicago Cubs the very next day!

At least I don't have to wait until Monday, April 5th as the family is headed to the local AAA team to see the Charlotte Knights take on the Chicago White Sox. Then I get the see the Braves beat the White Sox the very next night on TV.

One more week. Just have to make it through one more week!

In the mail 3/19/10

Only one card today and it's beautiful shiny refractor of a former Braves player. I don't normally buy former Braves players, but Steve Avery cards don't seem to be that plentiful (at least on eBay) and I'm a sucker for refractors. Worth the $1.00 purchase price.

Michaelcats?

So it looks like the local NBA team as a new owner in Michael Jordan. So far it seems like people's opinion's are mixed. Most could care less who owns the team as long as the team on the court is putting up wins.

The other debate is whether or not the team should be revamped and renamed. I never was a fan of the name Bobcats to begin with so I wouldn't mind if the name were changed. I do like the orange and better yet the dark blue uniforms.

So I'll take this question to the blog masses. If you were Michael Jordan, would you change the team's name? If so, what to?

My first eTopps haul arrived!

I'm a little late posting this as my first shipment from eTopps arrived sometime last week. I took advantage of the shipping sale Topps was running and finally shipped some of the cards I've had in my portfolio since I started buying in 2002! I am really impressed with these cards even though they aren't desirable.

Let's start w/ the Braves lot:

Photobucket

2009 Jordan Schafer RC, 2005 & 2006 Jeff Francoeur & 2006 Bobby Cox

Photobucket

2002 DeShaun Foster & Chris Weinke, 2004 Keary Colbert, 05 Stephan LeFors, Julius Peppers & Eric Shelton, 2006 Steve Smith & DeAngelo Williams

I got a few Panthers team cards that I didn't bother scanning. I've learned however that I ought to hold off buying some of these players when they are first released as the prices drop rather quickly on eBay. I paid full price for all of these and now could be had for a buck or less. Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

In the mail 3/16/10

I got a nice assortment today in the mail box. Let's start with a few older Braves cards.

Photobucket

Bobby Cox 1978 Topps #93, 1991 Topps Micro #759, Joe Torre 1983 #126, Ron Gant 2005 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites #30, Sid Bream 2005 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites #31, 1991 Topps Traded #13T

I ran across this John Wetteland card in the closing minutes of it's eBay auction. Nabbed it for $2.50. While I wouldn't normally add a Yankee to my collection, I've collected John Wetteland since discovering he was a Christian in the early 90's. I'm not entirely familiar with this Upper Deck set so if someone can shed some light on the card I would greatly appreciate it. It's number is #AU-39 and it's from 2004. The Pujols is a nice thick insert from 2001 Topps Stadium Club #RT19. Pretty card for a buck.

2010 eTopps 206 Albert Pujols Insanity

I don't buy a lot of eTopps cards, esp. when Topps first releases them due to the cost. Most of the ones I have paid full price just seem to drop in price on eBay so fast. I saw the new 2010 206 style Pujols card offered last week and I thought about it...but since I'm focusing on my Braves collection right now I passed. I took a peek this evening to see what the card is now trading for and my jaw hit the floor. Did people not know the card was available for $7.00 last week?

I can smell the 2010 baseball season!

While it may not be tickets to see the Braves play in Atlanta, I did purchase 2 tickets this afternoon to watch the local AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox (Charlotte Knights) play the Sox on April 1st. This will mark the first time a MLB team has played in Charlotte in 9 years. A few weeks later I hope to catch a game or two when the Gwinette Braves roll into town.

Yes, baseball & hot dogs are in my near future!

Pack Break - 2011 Garbage Pail Kids Flashback

Wow, Topps slipped this release right by me without noticing! I ran across these @ Target today and I couldn't resist at least buying one pack to see what was inside. Long before I collected baseball cards I had GPK cards. What kid of the 80's didn't?

With a price of $1.99 per pack I only picked up one pack until I had a chance to see what the cards actually looked like. Here are the 10 cards I pulled:

Photobucket

It appears the set is comprised of 160 cards, 80 a & 80 b. The backs of the cards vary as some feature puzzle pieces, reprinted "ads" or a checklist. 2 of the cards in my pack (Bony Joanie & Geeky Gary) feature the original 80's art on the back. Notice the Flashback moniker is missing under the GPK logo and above their names it says "Where are they now?". I like this "subset" since you get a look at how the artists today interpret original cards.

I was surprised to see so many inserts and parallels in the set.

- Gross Green parallel 1:2
- Punk Pink parallel 1:3
- Silver parallel 1:6
- Gold parallel 1:42
- Sketch card 1:229
- Motion card 1:8

I have to say that I'm impressed with this set. I may even try to complete a set (a or b) while I wait for more 2010 baseball to be released. I wasn't all that impressed with the other current GPK sets Topps has put out...however this set looks to be a lot of fun. I don't care for the loud yellow & black checkered boarders or the parallels, but the base set is enough to entice me to keep busting packs.

Open to trading...anyone?

As you may be able to tell I'm new at the whole blog trading thing, but I'm ready, willing & able to do some trading. I'm looking for Braves stuff (90-current) and recent years of Red Sox stuff for my nephew. Also looking for Carolina Panthers, Carolina Bobcats and old Charlotte Hornets stuff. I've also listed the players I collect on my want list. I'm not a set builder per se, but I love to bust packs and the occasional box so I end up with lots of trade bait. As time permits I'll continue to update my want & trade lists.

...and now back to scanning all the loot eBay has so graciously dropped in my mailbox over the past week.

A sad day in the Carolinas?

Jake Delhomme, quarterback of the Carolina Panthers has been cut. Sad day? Sorry, I really can't be sad. While Jake has had his good days his bad days far outweigh the good. So we are left with Matt Moore as our lone QB. So far it seems like the majority of the fan base in the Carolinas are happy with the move. Is Moore the answer though? Since Michael Vick has mentioned he would like to be a Carolina Panther is he the answer? Will the Eagles even let him go? All I know is the Panthers will look dramatically different next year. I wonder if Peppers would change his mind now that Delhomme is gone?

2010 Topps Million Card Giveaway Results

A good card (Atlanta Braves) is still eluding my grasps...now I know why I never buy a lottery ticket!
