September 2018 Affordable Group Break

A new month is almost here and that means its time for a new Affordable Group Break! The summer months have been super hectic for me with family, vacation and work travels, but September should see things start to slow down for me so this is the perfect time to return to my hosting duties.

The product in this break include 2 Hobby boxes (2011 Panini Limited and 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes) and should contain 6 total hits! For more information about each product, please click on the name.

2011 Limited
While the box only includes 7 cards, 3 of the seven cards are hits, with at least 2 autographs. Limited Great Signatures include players such as Cal Ripken Jr., Chipper Jones, Mariano Rivera, Craig Biggio, Al Kaline, Migueal Cabrera, Pete Rose, David Ortiz and more.

 2013 Hometown Heroes
Box will include 3 autographs and plenty of parallels and inserts including: State and Zip Code parallels, Sportdiscs, Curtain Call, City Hall, Defining Moments, Nickname, Rivalry and Hometown Heroes inserts.

This will work in similar fashion to previous Breaks I've hosted. We'll have 15 slots, each slot contains two teams. You'll get to pick your first team and once all 15 slots are full, I'll randomize the remaining unclaimed 15 teams and assign them to each claimed slot.

RULES:
* $12 per slot - includes shipping.
* Additional slots will be offered for an additional $9.50.
* All cards ship!
 >>>>> * Payment (Goods & Services please) - PayPal.me/flywheels86 <<<<<
* When sending your payment, please include the team(s) you chose.
* If there are cards with multiple players, the card will go to the team with the least amount of cards from that product.
* Boxes will be opened live on Facebook with the video posted on the blog.
* I don't have a schedule date/time for the break as the boxes will still need to be ordered, but I'll post updates on my social media channels (Facebook & Twitter). Aiming to get started Saturday, 09/08/18...if not sooner.
* Questions? Please let me know. You can message me on Facebook Messenger or send me a Direct Message on Twitter.

Panini delivers Lemke ink!

I guess you could say I'm coming off a "Panini high" after hosting last month's Affordable Group break featuring Panini's newest baseball product, 2014 Donruss.  While I still wish Panini would be offered a full license so they could really go toe to toe with Topps, I appreciate most of their baseball efforts.

I recently stumbled across a checklist for last year's Hometown Heroes autograph set and was surprised to see a lot of the names included.  I always find it refreshing with you have players that have signed that aren't usually included in other sets.  Maybe that's why I loved the old Leaf Signatures set from the 90's.  After skimming the list I immediately stopped when I saw this card:

Mark freakin' Lemke!  This 2nd baseball of the Braves was all about hustle and grit.  Growing up watching the '91 Braves I loved watching Lemke sniff out ground balls and pull of double plays.  Sadly though I only have a handful of his cards...and none of them are autographs...until now!  I've managed to get several nice Braves auto in my collecting time, but there is nothing better than getting your first auto of one of your favorite players.

On a somewhat releated note, I filled out my online redemption quest for my first Evan Gattis auto as well from 2014 Donruss.  Too bad I won't be enjoying my first auto of Evan anytime soon. ) =

Pack Break - 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes

Panini's baseball efforts have been hit and miss for me, but anytime I see a new product of theirs on the shelf I'm always curious to see how the cards look.  Enter in Hometown Heroes.  I grabbed one pack from my local Target to see what the fuss was all about and I gotta say Panini has done a good job here.

8 cards for $2.99.  300 card set w/ parallels that are aptly named State and Zip Code.  Lots of different inserts and a chance at on-card signatures.  Sure, why not?

Hope you like yellow because these cards feature a lot of it!  Printed on brown card stock, the yellow and red looks good together.  I like the pennant used for the team name.  This design envokes a certain Upper Deck set.  For an unlicensed set of baseball cards these look nice.  In fact it's stuff like this that makes me wish Topps didn't have the full license monopoly.

Cal is a keeper for me, but the rest I need to find a good home for.  Any takers?
