September Group Break Update

Well I guess I finally picked a few stinker boxes for a group break. It's been awhile since I haven't had enough interest and had to cancel a break, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel this break. For the few that claimed a team and paid, I'll be processing you a full refund momentarily.

I'm not sure if I'll try again or just wait. I may just go "back to my roots" and chose more cheap 90's product next time since that seems to be what people are interested in...at least in my breaks. I'm always up to taking suggestions and open to ideas if anyone has anything to share. Until then, thanks for the continued support.

Group Break Update

Even though the sign ups have slowed down and we still have several slots still available to be claimed (and some good teams too!), I've ordered the boxes and should have them by mid-week. Once they arrive, we'll get the break going. Aiming for Thursday or Friday evening...depending on my travel schedule for work.

Any unclaimed slots will go to me as the host...however I'd rather not eat the money so be sure to tell your friends about the break. Only $8 gets you two teams, one of your choosing and one randomized.

Affordable Group Break: Sign-Up Deadline 03/27

The Break is full! Boxes have been ordered. Should be able to break live this Saturday evening at 9 PM Eastern.

Alright, in order to break these boxes next weekend (March 31st) then I need to fill a minimum of 5 of the final 6 slots. The deadline to claim a slot will be Tuesday, 03/27/18. If I'm unable to fill 5 slots by then, I'll be cancelling the break and refunding everyone's money that has paid.

I was really hoping that I'd get enough interest in doing something different, but with the overall cost I simply can't afford to absorb that kind of a hit. Hopefully everyone understands that.

Please help me spread the word via Social Media and let's fill up those spots. Remember, if you've already paid and would like an additional slot, you'll receive a $2 discount.

March 2018 Affordable Group Break - FILLED!!

The group break has officially been filled! Thank you to everyone that has signed up. We'll get underway at 9 PM EST this evening in my new Facebook Group, found HERE. Be sure to join and tune in this evening...even if you didn't buy in.


Only one more slot left to fill in this month's Affordable Group Break. $7 gets you two teams, one of your choice and the other randomly assigned. We're ripping some early 90's "oddball" Pacific boxes, 1993 Spanish and 1994 Hobby. Some good teams are still left, who wants in?

Group Break Update feat. Panini Unwrapped (2013 Score NFL)

So most of you know that my next Affordable Group Break contains one 10 pack/50 cards per pack Jumbo Hobby box of 2013 Score NFL Football.  I was already super excited about the breaking the box as a host, but then Tracy Hackler of Panini had to do one of their box break videos that has me even more excited.

I decided to share the video here just in case you were on the fence of whether to sign up for my break or not.  One pack of this at your LCS will set you back at least $10 (assuming it's not marked up).  So why not save your $10 and put it towards the break where you get to choose 1 team and have 2nd team randomized?!

Looks fun, huh?  Panini has really amped up the Score brand for 2013 and I can't wait to get ripping.  UPS says the box will be delivered on Friday.  My wife's birthday is Saturday and I know I'm going to be busy, but I'm going to aim for busting the box Friday evening.  If there was enough interest I could try to do the video LIVE via UStream.  I've never done that before, but I'm always willing to give it a try.  Otherwise I'll upload the video to my YouTube account for all to watch while I craft a blog post with the contents.

April 2013 Affordable Group Break UPDATE

I stepped away for the Easter weekend to spend some time with my family, but I'm back with a quick update for this month's all new Affordable Group Break.  Boxes have arrived and I'm already to rip...but we still have 3 slots left to fill!  I also haven't received payment for the Rockies from hiflew yet.

If you have been thinking of adding a 2nd slot or grabbing your first, now is the time.  I'm off work on Thursday, 04/04/13, and that is when I'd like start opening.  If there are no other takers within the next few days then I'll take the remaining slots.  I hope to get the 2nd teams randomized Tuesday, 04/02/13.  This should give time for people to trade their 2nd team if they so wish to.

February Affordable Group Break feat. 2013 Topps UPDATE

The start to the 2013 baseball trading card season is quickly approaching!  In celebration I've got 2 hobby jumbo boxes coming that I'll be including in February's edition of my Affordable Group Break.  Thanks in part to several readers and a few new folks from Facebook we've gotten a good majority of the teams claimed and paid for.  The boxes have been ordered and should ship on 01/31/13.  However several good teams are still left - Red Sox, Reds, Yankees.  Yup!  The Yankees are still on the table.  That never happens!  The Yankees ALWAYS go first it seems.

Others teams as of today (01/12/13) available include: Astros, A's, Cubs, Indians, Mariners, Marlins, Mets, Padres, Pirates, Royals, Twins and White Sox.

LAST CALL! Pack ripping is about to start.

Oh boy.  On the eve of starting the biggest group break I've ever hosted my employer decides to drop a fairly large project in my lap and hasn't given me much time to complete it.  Don't worry though - I'll find time to get everything ripped and posted as fast as I can.  I just wanted to give all the participants a quick heads up that things may not go as fast as I'd like.

Now that is out of the way I wanted to extend one last opportunity to grab a team!  This break will yield a lot of cards and I'd rather not have a mountain of Marlins cards left.  So if you are reading this and want to jump in it's not too late...but I need to hear from you by 11 PM EST tonight, 08/14/12.

Going out on a limb for the Group Break

It's no secret that I'm not made out of money.  That said I usually wait until I've sold enough slots/teams each month for my Affordable Group Break before I plunk down the money and order the boxes.  This time around however I'm going on a virtual limb here as I just placed the order with the Baseball Card Exchange.

I don't mind claiming another team (or two), but I really don't want to eat a lot of teams.  If you've been on the fence now is the time to grab a team or two.  Boxes hopefully will ship today and be in my hands early next week.  I'll wait to cut off sign ups until the boxes are in hand.

A big thanks to everyone that has signed up and paid already.  Without everyone's support these breaks can't happen on a monthly basis.

Group Break Update

Sign ups for this month's Affordable Group Break haven't been coming along as fast as I'd like, but I'm going to go ahead and order the boxes tomorrow, 4/13/12.  I'm taking my family to the beach the last week of the April for some much needed R & R so I'd like to get the break going before I leave.  That said time for claiming a slot is running out.  Any unclaimed teams will go to the host (that's me).  I don't want to eat these slots so if you've been on the fence now is the time.  Sign ups will officially close next week once the boxes have arrived.

Under Construction & September Group Break Update

I wanted to let everyone know that posts here may be a little light over the next few weeks.  I had some things come up at home that has led me to move my "man cave" downstairs in my home to the room over the garage upstairs.  In addition I'll be purging a large chunk of my Transformers toy collection and moving my toy room into my new man cave.  This is a daunting task and one that will take up a lot of my free time.  And my little brother is getting married this weekend and I'm his co-best man.

I hope to at least break the September group break boxes on video later this week.  I had a blast doing the live Ustream video so I wanted to see what people's opinion is one more time on doing a live video.  I'm going to list 3 viewing options along with the option of a pre-recorded video.  Please comment with your preference.  We'll go with whichever option gets the most response.

2) Saturday evening, 9/24 at 10 pm EST

3) Sunday evening, 9/25 at 9 pm EST

4) Pre-recorded to be posted sometime this weekend or next week
