Don't Call it a Comback...Yet!

I'm floating around the idea of hosting a small one box break of the upcoming 2021 Panini Prizm Quick Pitch baseball. If there is enough interest to do a straight fill (all 30 teams) then I believe we can pull this off. The average team price would be around $7. Box should yield one auto and 2 silver Prizm parallels. Assuming the product release date isn't delayed, I could have this in hand to break as early as Friday, 09/03/21. If you are interested in participating, please leave a comment. Thank you!

Affordable Group Break Idea

** UPDATE **
Boxes have been selected, head on over to THIS POST to check out all the details and to sign up.

Time for another group break. Just trying to gauge interest right now. Looking at two jumbo boxes, 1995 Score Series 2 and 1996 Score Series 1. Both boxes feature a cool design and will yield plenty of base cards for all teams. Parallels and inserts to chase too, especially in the jumbo packs. I always liked the Air Mail from the 1995 jumbo packs.

Two teams (one of your choice, one randomized) can be yours for the low, low cost of only $7 shipped! If I get enough of a response either here or on the post I did in my Facebook group, I'll do a post for sign-ups this weekend.

Let me know what you think!

Group Break interest - 2014 Donruss

So I was checking my e-mail last night and I saw that DA Cardworld had pre-orders up for 2014 Donruss and I immediately wondered if they would be enough interest to do a small group break.

1990 Donruss helped usher me into the world of baseball card collecting so I'm kinda fond of the Donruss brand.  I know it's not the same now, being in the Panini stable and not being officially licensed and all.  The box contents look impressive though so I thought I'd gauge interest.

I was thinking 2 hobby boxes, 15 two team slots.  Choose one team, randomly assigned a 2nd team all for $13.00 shipped per slot.

The other alternative is just open one hobby box w/ the same format as above, for $8 shipped per slot.

Look over the contents and think it over.  Please comment if this is something you'd be in for - 1 or two boxes.  I don't need to know your team choice at this time, just if you'd sign up or not.  I'll give this a few days before making a final decision.

I'm such a tease!

Ok, get your head out of the gutter!  I wanted to gauge interest on my next break.  Would you guys and gals out there be interested in a break that would potentially give us 2 shots at either a Albert Pujols and/or Ichiro RCs?  In addition to that it looks like the 4 boxes I've chosen would also yield 8 hits + other inserts.  We'd also get about around 500+ base cards.  Sound interesting?

**EDIT** hiflew of Cards from the Quarry suggested a great idea! Two different scenarios for sign-ups.  Looking for feedback here please.  In the past I've opened the breaks up to all 30 teams and have had trouble filling them all.  I can't afford to eat teams...period.  However I'm game to whatever everyone wants.  Any Pujols or Ichiro card would be randomed off.  If we do 30 teams the price comes out to $9.75 shipped.

OR

15 slots - choose your team.  After all 15 slots are full we'll open it back up for everyone to chose a 2nd team.  If a Pujols or Ichiro card is pulled they'll be randomed off to all participants.  This way you Cardinals or Mariners fans can still have your team and everyone has a shot of landing a nice RC.  Price per slot comes out to be $16.50 shipped.

We could always drop one box to lower the overall costs too if necessary.

Whatever scenario is chosen I have to have all the slots full in order for this to happen.  So, give me a piece of your mind!  Tell me what option you would be more gung-ho for.  Do you even like having a team that isn't "your team" in group breaks?  Inquiring minds want to know!

I would like to reveal the 4 boxes and post sign-ups soon so if you have something to share please do so.  In the mean time I'll leave everyone with this teaser image:

2011 Topps Marquee Break Update - $38 / 2 teams

I wanted to thank everyone that has expressed interest in my idea of a case break of Topps Marquee.  The only way it would work as I proposed it is if all 30 teams (29 teams since I'm claiming the Braves) were claimed.

I'm having a hard time seeing some teams claimed as it was pointed out to me that not every team is very well represented across the various checklists.  That said I wanted to propose another option that would cost a little less and might be more feasible to fill up and more fair to everyone who participates.

I personally don't like the idea as much of drafting at random the hits from the box...so you'll get 1 team of your choice plus another at random.  That way it'll double your chance at getting a good card(s) and it should help fill up the break making it a reality.

The break would be done via video and posted to YouTube.  I've never done the whole UStream thing, but I may look into that as well.

What I'm asking you to do now is leave a comment with your team of choice.  There are only 14 slots available so don't delay.  If you already left a post yesterday/earlier I'm going to put you down for that team.  If you don't want to participate in this 3 box deal then please let me know ASAP so others have a shot.

3 boxes, $38.00 per slot shipped.  15 slots total - first team is of your choosing.  After all 15 slots are claimed then a 2nd team will be assigned to you at random.

You have 2 weeks to submit your payment.  The sooner the better.  PayPal gift payments can be sent to:  cardboardcollectionsATyahooDOTcom  Make sure you let me know your team of choice and your mailing address.

Future Group Break Idea (2005 UD Trilogy) -- Anyone interested?

I know I pride myself on offering what I think are affordable group breaks.  I often stick with 90's or early 2000 era boxes since a lot of others like me weren't collecting or collecting much during that time period.  Plus I can find better deals which allow me to keep the prices down.  I've toyed with the idea of doing something high end, but I've never got enough of a response to go ahead.

That said I got an e-mail this evening from Dave & Adam's and one of their specials was a box of 2005 Upper Deck Trilogy.  This stuff ain't cheap, but from what I remember of this product the cards look very nice and the box is loaded with hits.  9 to be exact!  For a full rundown click HERE for D&A's listing or HERE for Baseball Card Pedia.com's entry.

What I was thinking of was selling slots instead of teams.  All hits would be randomized upon all the entries to make it fair for everyone.  As for the base cards I'd be up to suggestions for how to distribute those.  Perhaps randomly assign a team with each slot?  I'm open to ideas of how to arrange this so for all of those bloggers out there that do the high end stuff please chime in.  Or if you've participated in high end breaks give me some ideas!

The box would run $240 w/ free shipping.  /30 teams the cost per slot comes out to $8.00.  Factor in $3.00 for shipping (I'd use bubble mailers over standard kraft envelopes that I typically use) for a grand total of $11.00 per slot.  I obviously would need to sell all 30 teams to make this work.

I know that I'm getting ready to start this month's group break, but if I get enough interest I would need to collect the money rather quickly as I'm not sure how long the special @ Dave & Adam's will last.

Group Break Feedback Needed!

It appears that everyone that participated in this month's group break was very pleased because I keep getting asked "When is the next group break?".  I've been looking at a lot of different options for different boxes to open, but I wanted to pose a question to everyone before announcing the next break.

I know everyone appreciates the low price point I generally feature in my breaks and I aim to keep them affordable.  What I want to know is would you rather the next break be "as is" meaning 2-3 boxes of late 90's/early 2000's that features a lot of base cards and inserts or would you like the break to feature one box that guarantees multiple hits with less base cards/inserts?

I've thought about '07 Upper Deck Elements, '08 Donruss Threads, '09 Topps Ticket to Stardom, '09 Topps Unique and most recently '02 Donruss Originals.  I believe we can do a box of something like this and keep the individual team prices at no more than $10-$12 w/ shipping included.  Less popular teams will most likely be discounted to help fill up the slots.  I'm open to suggestions for boxes w/ multiple guaranteed hits too.  Feel free to e-mail me (flywheels at yahoo dot com) your suggestion(s) along w/ a link to where they can be purchased.

Like I said I've got lots of ideas for product to feature if the majority of people want the next break to be like all the previous ones.  Leave me a comment and let me know what direction you want February's break to lean.  Keep doing "as is" or feature 1 box w/ multiple hits.  I'll tally up everyone's comments after a week or so and see what the majority opinion is and go from there.

Group Break Idea - Any Interest?

While I had lots of fun with the group break we just wrapped up, I can't help to think it was a little less than exciting for a lot of us.  Ever since I've tried my hand at hosting breaks I've aimed to stick with lower end stuff from the 90's or early 2000's.  I've also tried to keep the cost at no more than $10.00 per team.

Well I wanted to poll you the reader, past and present group break participant.  Would you be interested in breaking higher end product that would yield multiple hits?  I've participated in a few on other blogs and while I've never ended up with a big hit there was much more excitement "in the air" at the possibility of what your slot would bring.

All that said I wanted to propose the following boxes for the next break.  Yeah I know the timing may not be the best seeing how I haven't even mailed out the cards for the break that just wrapped up...but I have a small window of opportunity to get the boxes of cards at a good price.  Here is what I'm thinking about:

- 1 hobby box of 2009 Topps Unique (sell sheet)
- 1 hobby box of 2009 Topps Ticket to Stardom (sell sheet)

Each box contains 3 guaranteed hits.  Each product is different enough that we shouldn't end up with run of the mill jersey or bat cards or autographs of players you've never heard of!  I've attached a sell sheet (.pdf format) for each product above if you aren't familiar with either set.  Each team would be $18.00 shipped.  I may price a few teams even cheaper (like the Pirates, Dbacks or Royals).

I ask those of you who are reading this to comment and let me know if you'd be on board.  I would need to get about 10 participants/teams to make this work.  I would also have to place the order within the next couple of days as I'm not sure how long the stock will last.  If we can make this work I'd be game to try other newer releases later this year like Gypsy Queen for those of you on a budget.
