February 2014 Affordable Group Break - 2014 Donruss Box 1

Well the first of two boxes of 2014 Donruss has been opened and I've got to say I love this product!  Good news is the collation wasn't as bad as what others have seen and we got an extra hit!  Below you'll find the video for those of you that like that sort of thing.  You can also skip on down for scans of the inserts and hits.  At the bottom you'll find a card count for each participant to see how well your teams performed and how you stack up against others.

I hope everyone is satisfied with the first box.  If I hadn't already given up set building this would be a fun set to go after.  The cards in hand are beautiful and I think everyone will like them.  I'm going to try and do the 2nd box tomorrow after work.  I may do another video, but if I do expect to see another post just like this one...only w/ updated card counts for all.  Thanks everyone!

While we're waiting for the group break boxes to arrive...

Now those of you reading this that are participating in this month's Affordable Group Break may or may not want to watch the latest Panini Unwrapped video featuring 2014 Donruss.  If you are as excited as I am about this new "throwback" product then you'll gladly watch the video.  If you don't want to be spoiled then you can proceed about your Thursday.

I should have these boxes in hand tomorrow (according to UPS).  I'll get to ripping and posting cards via my blog and on my seldom used YouTube channel.  Make sure to subscribe on YouTube if you haven't already.  I'll also be posting images and links to my blog on my Facebook page.  By Liking the Facebook page you can easily stay up to date with what is going on here at Cardboard Collections as well as view some nifty card scans of some Atlanta Braves players.

Group Break boxes have shipped and a 2014 Donruss wrapper redemption?

First off, I got the UPS notification yesterday that our 2014 Donruss group break boxes have shipped.  Tracking info has them delivered at my home Friday.  I have to work this Saturday, but I plan on getting the boxes opened either Friday or Saturday night with the results posted over the weekend.

At this point I'm still leaning towards doing an old fashioned post w/ the interesting cards scanned in, as opposed to doing a video.  Or I may do a recap video and show case the hits.  Either way the results will hopefully be posted to my blog over the weekend.

Guess that means I should hurry up and clean off my desk and hook up my new scanner I got for Christmas!

Also, I saw today that Panini is doing a wrapper redemption for 2014 Donruss.  24 wrappers will yield a 3 card pack w/ the last few Rated Rookie cards.  This means I should be able to get 2 packs.  Question is how do I go about making this fair to all the participants.  Chime in and let me know what you think about the wrappers.  How should we go about this?

All slots have now been paid for.  God willing I'll post the video of 2nd team randomization later this evening.

2014 Donruss Group Break boxes have been ordered!

I placed the order this morning for our two hobby boxes of 2014 Donruss.  These release February 26th, so it'll most likely be the beginning of March before I have them in hand and we get this break up and going.

That means there is still time to fill the last two slots available.  Once all 15 slots are filled, we'll random off the unclaimed teams to everyone.

Still waiting on payment from Matt Pederson, Roy-Z and Josh D.  Guys, if you'd get those to me this week I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you want to jump in on the fun, please head on over here to sign up now!  Remember guys and gals, just two 2 team slots left!

Sunday Verse

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Kurt Warner immediately came to my mind when I read this verse aloud.  Have a great Sunday everyone.  I'm trying to get over a sinus infection that has slowed me down tremendously.  If I make it to Church today, I'll be riding the couch for the rest of the day.

Affordable Group Break feat. 2014 Donruss (x2 hobby boxes) - Signs ups are now Live!

** UPDATE 02/17/14 **
All slots have been filled and paid for.

A few days ago I asked if anyone would be interested in a participating in a group break with two hobby boxes of 2014 Donruss.  I really wasn't sure what the response would be.  After all this blog sat out the last 3 quarters of 2013.  However the response was really positive and it looks like most people prefer the two box option.  So with all that said, I'm opening up the break officially today!  If you voted and mentioned a team in my previous post, I've carried over that team to the sign ups.  We have a total of 15 slots so there is still room / time for others to chime in!

TERMS:

* 15 slots - choose one team and after the break is filled, I'll randomly assign a 2nd team for each slot.

* $13 shipped per slot.  I do ask that if you are outside of the U.S. that you pitch in a few extra dollars to cover international shipping.  I can also give you a quote if you let me know where you are located.

* Look over the list of teams claimed, then leave a comment with the team you choose.

* Product launches February 26th, however I'd like to place the order ASAP.  Please send your payment after claiming your team via PayPal to: flywheels86 at gmail.com

* I still have many of my former "regulars" mailing addresses, but just to be safe please send me your address too.  You can e-mail that to the same e-mail address you sent the payment to.

* In the past I've done both posts and a YouTube video with the pack results.  I haven't decided which format to use for this break, so if you want chime in and let me know your preference.

* Participants are allowed to trade any if their possible doubles.  If that is the case, make it known in the comments below and I'll do my best to send any doubles to the other trading partner.

* For a complete run down of what may be in the boxes, check out my original post.  In addition check out some of the images Panini just posted on their own blog of 2014 Donruss Dominators!

Group Break interest - 2014 Donruss

So I was checking my e-mail last night and I saw that DA Cardworld had pre-orders up for 2014 Donruss and I immediately wondered if they would be enough interest to do a small group break.

1990 Donruss helped usher me into the world of baseball card collecting so I'm kinda fond of the Donruss brand.  I know it's not the same now, being in the Panini stable and not being officially licensed and all.  The box contents look impressive though so I thought I'd gauge interest.

I was thinking 2 hobby boxes, 15 two team slots.  Choose one team, randomly assigned a 2nd team all for $13.00 shipped per slot.

The other alternative is just open one hobby box w/ the same format as above, for $8 shipped per slot.

Look over the contents and think it over.  Please comment if this is something you'd be in for - 1 or two boxes.  I don't need to know your team choice at this time, just if you'd sign up or not.  I'll give this a few days before making a final decision.

Pack Break - 2013 Panini Hometown Heroes

Panini's baseball efforts have been hit and miss for me, but anytime I see a new product of theirs on the shelf I'm always curious to see how the cards look.  Enter in Hometown Heroes.  I grabbed one pack from my local Target to see what the fuss was all about and I gotta say Panini has done a good job here.

8 cards for $2.99.  300 card set w/ parallels that are aptly named State and Zip Code.  Lots of different inserts and a chance at on-card signatures.  Sure, why not?

Hope you like yellow because these cards feature a lot of it!  Printed on brown card stock, the yellow and red looks good together.  I like the pennant used for the team name.  This design envokes a certain Upper Deck set.  For an unlicensed set of baseball cards these look nice.  In fact it's stuff like this that makes me wish Topps didn't have the full license monopoly.

Cal is a keeper for me, but the rest I need to find a good home for.  Any takers?
