Game 1 of the 2010 NFL Season for the Carolina Panthers...

...and the final outcome wasn't what the fans were wanting to see.  Jake Delhomme is now in Cleveland and Matt Moore is calling the plays at the QB position.  Basically we got the same results today - just with a different QB.  3 freakin' interceptions in the end zone today!  3!  The only bright spot I can find in the game is that we got the monkey off our backs with the first offensive touchdown.  The Steve Smith caught a pass that Matt Moore did thread in between 2 defenders.  The running backs outside of one play here and there didn't do much to impress.  The rest of the offense seemed to be asleep, esp. the offensive line.  On the defensive side of things there were some highlights in the secondary as they picked off Eli Manning on 3 different occasions.  I have to give credit where credit is due as the Giants offensive line gave Eli all sorts of time to throw the ball today.  The Panthers just were able to apply much pressure on Eli which was a big disappointment seeing how many QB sacks the team had in the preseason.

This was the first of 16 games so no one in Carolina is throwing in the towel, but if Matt Moore's performance didn't scream Delhomme today then I don't know what does.  Here's hope that maybe it was just opening day jitters for Matt today because he seemed much more comfortable coming in late last season and winning 3 of his 4 starts.  The rookie Jimmy Clausen...

** Breaking News **

Albert Pujols just homered off of Hudson in the top of the 1st to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead...

Now where was I?  Oh yeah.  Jimmy Clausen was able to make it into the game today for his NFL debut, but he came in with a little over 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and was starting deep in Panthers' territory.  He went 3 and out and we punted to the Giants where they finished the game with Eli taking a knee.

Up next for the Panthers is the home opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who beat Jake Delhomme and the Cleveland Browns today.  With New Orleans winning Thursday night (and the Atlanta Falcons losing today to Pittsburgh) the Panthers find themselves tied for 3rd in their division

  1. You can have Jake back if you want. He looked better than last year's Cleveland QB's against Tampa, but anyone would have given last year's Cleveland QB's. I want Seneca to start!
