Isaiah 26:4 (NIV)
4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
The Lord is often referred to as the rock. What that means for those who may not understand is that God is firm and unchangeable like a rock. A rock offers protection and defense for everlasting ages...hence the idea "Rock of ages".
